What a strong start for a solid artist. The songwriting is barebones honest, piano artfully percussive. What strikes me most about this album is the purity of Bareilles' voice. Pure, unwavering, melodic tones.
Listen to "Vegas", "One Sweet Love", and "Love on the Rocks" just see how nicely varied her music is. If you like albums that contain same-ish songs, look somewhere else, this is a fantastic variety of catchy pop, ballads, and other amazing offerings. I don't get tired of this album at all, and smile when I hear her songs come up on my playlist every time. "Fairytale" is one of my favorites for the lyrics, and I love the chances she took here with being humorous, truthful, and emotionally invested in her writing. Sara has done a great job of putting together a piece of work that keeps toes tapping and the repeat buttons pressed. Her top 40 "Love Song" in my opinion is only the tip of the iceberg.
I wont compare her to Tori as no one should be.She is a one off and completely unique.Some pop influenced tracks mix in with some ballads and numerous radio friendly tunes.It's a great album to put on your ipod if you have a long trip ahead.I can't wit for Sarah's new album, I'll be buying that one the day it comes out. What an amazing album.Her voice is strong, the lyryics are very personable (I'm sure she snuck into my brain to write Gravity). I was a little hesitant buying this album.her lead single "Lovesong" got so much airplay and seemed to be on every advertisement for every new show that I was over it quickly.too much sometimes can be too much. But it had been a while since I'd heard the song and anything else by Sarah so I purchased this not long ago and I was pleasently surprised.
Instead, she sounds like a woman who has gained a bit of wisdom or two and who wryly injects pearls of that wisdom into her work.Bareilles is a woman of serious talent and I hope fervently that she'll continue to produce albums of the quality of Little Voice. Bareilles comes across as wry and savvy and while she isn't shy about being blunt, she never sounds bitter to me. Some of her songs are plaintive and lovely, such as One Sweet Love, while others speak frankly of the travails of love, such as Fairytale.
It seems like so much female talent is wasted to vapid and manufactured pop music that I'd almost given up on female singers entirely. She does cut loose on some of her songs (Vegas comes to mind here) but she does so in a classic tradition of a diva belting it out rather than a pop princess delving into the realm of the shriek. From the first time I heard "Love Song", I knew Sara Bareilles was just the kind of singer for whom I'd been searching.
I'm very pleased to say that there is never any shrieking in this album, just a pure and velvety voice.Couple this with the cleverness of Bareilles's lyrics and it's easy to see why she's such a winning combination. I know I'll be anxiously awaiting them. I was overjoyed when I discovered KT Tunstall and wasn't sure I'd find anyone else I'd like as well.
I'm glad that Sara Bareilles proved me wrong.Perhaps one of her best attributes is that she has a very powerful, lovely voice but she uses it with restraint.
I am a country or rock and roll gal but this is a very nice change of pace. First time I have listened to her, love her voice and the different kind of music she sings.
